Mr. Christopher Tunnell, Ashland County prosecuting attorney, presented Mrs. Chrissie Butts, LHS interim principal, a check for $3,000 to be used for the L-P junior high and high school chapter of Drug Free Clubs of America. The money was obtained by Ashland County law enforcement in the process of making drug arrests and will be used to offset the costs of drug tests for club members.

Approximately 20% of the students in the junior high and high school voluntarily joined the club earlier this year. Their membership includes a pledge, backed by the required drug tests, not to use drugs, a subscription to the Drug Free Clubs of America online newsletter and a free entry to an annual scholarship contest sponsored by the Drug Free Clubs of America.  Area businesses and individuals, as well as Frito Lay in Wooster, have donated to the club making it possible for students to join for free.  Without their contributions, students would pay for their membership or drug test costs, usually $70 per member.

Club members can enjoy perks from local merchants upon presenting their ID card. Taco Bell gives members a free drink, even if they don’t purchase a meal, and the Ohio Theatre gives members free admission to movies and a free box of popcorn.  Other businesses that offer perks include Buzzard’s Family Shoes, Canine Design, Creative Outlet, Four Seasons Flowers & Gifts, Jessica’s Tips, Toes and Tangles, Loko Bean, Loudonville Farmer’s Equity, Loudonville Public Library, Merry Dairy, Mohican Adventures, Mohican Appliance, Rhoads Jewelry & Gifts, Round Lake Golf Course, Toni Keppen Massage Therapy, Trails End Restaurant, Stela’s Ice Cream Shoppe, Strive Health Fitness, Subway, and Your Digital Partner.

The L-P administration and staff are extremely greatly for all contributions to help L-P students stay drug free.
