Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Grant
The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation awarded a grant to Sandra Cates, a fourth grade science and mathematics teacher at C.E. Budd Elementary School. The grant, in the amount of $2,740, funds an in-class STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) project called Circuits in Motion.
"Using the engineering design process, each fourth grade student will demonstrate how energy in a circuit can be transformed through motions," Mrs. Cates said.
According to L-P superintendent John Miller, Cates' project is a natural extension of the existing STEM Engineering program at the junior high and high school to the elementary level.
Projects such as Sandra's extend STEM to the Budd School as does the installation of a MakerSpace in the building's library/media center," Miller said. "The STEM program is here to stay and it has become an important part of our district's instructional brand."
