McMullen students will be celebrating Right to Read Week February 26 – March 2. McMullen staff has several activities planned throughout the week for students to enjoy. Monday will be “Read My Shirt Day”, Tuesday will be “Hat Day”, Wednesday will be “Crazy Hair Day”, Thursday will be “Mismatch Day” and Friday will be “PJ Day”.
Using a circus theme, McMullen teachers will decorate their classroom doors and carnival games have been scheduled for students to play on Wednesday and Thursday. Each class will have 30 minutes in the gym to participate in the games and enjoy popcorn with their teacher.
Students will also gather reading minutes throughout the week. If 25,000 minutes are reached or exceeded, Mrs. Gorrell has graciously agreed to have pies thrown in her face. A large gumball machine filled with plastic balls will be in the school lobby to measure the amount of minutes the students have read daily. The goal is to fill the machine, marking 25,000 minutes have been achieved.
