Swinging into 2026 brings a lot of important guidance events and information for our high school Redbirds and parents. To stay up on the latest, please continue to read the following information.
College Credit Plus Night Student and Parent Meeting
If you are interested in earning college credit while attending LHS, join us for an informational meeting regarding College Credit Plus (CCP) on Wednesday, January 21, at 6:00PM in the LHS Cafeteria. The CCP program is traditionally for students in grades 11 and 12, and sometimes 10th grade. As a requirement of the Ohio Administrative Code (333-1-65.1), we are required to publicize this meeting to all students in next year's grades 7-12.
The purpose of the meeting is to explain the rules as approved by Ohio Higher Education and the Ohio Department of Education, and is required for all new CCP students. Students who have previously taken CCP courses are not required to attend.
The process can be confusing, so it is recommended anyone interested in CCP to attend. There will be an explanation of how students can meet eligibility requirements, and for which classes students may qualify.
We are very fortunate to be able to offer a considerable amount of CCP classes through a partnership with North Central State College. Classes at LHS are free to students and occur within the regular school day. Representatives will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Contact Kristen Thiebaud, LHS Guidance Counselor, if you have any questions.
ACCUPLACER Test
The ACCUPLACER helps colleges and workforce training providers gauge student readiness for required coursework and identify areas where students may need additional support to succeed. It is not a pass or fail test. The questions will become more advanced or easier based on their answers.
The test is free for students taking it for the first time. Students will be charged a fee by North Central State College if they have tested in a prior year. All interested students in grades 7-12 may sign-up in the Guidance Office. The test will be administered in the LHS Library on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 8:00AM.
ACT
The ACT (American College Testing) will be administered to all juniors on Tuesday, February 24, in the LHS Gymnasium at 8:00AM. The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions and covers the academic skills of English, math, and reading. The test will be offered to all sophomores on Tuesday, March 10, at 8:00AM.
Scholarships
Seniors should check the Guidance webpage often as it's the time of the year that scholarship information is received. Many scholarships will be available, and students should pay close attention to the details and the requirements of each one.
The Ashland Community Foundation Scholarship is a unique scholarship as students will be considered for all opportunities for which they are eligible by completing one application. The scholarships are created and designed by individual donors and have varying eligibility and selection criteria. Most, but not all, ACCF scholarships are for Ashland County residents only. Students will use their online scholarship system to complete their application. Applications are due March 1, 2026.
There will be many more scholarships available and will be posted just as soon as they are received so it's important that students check the guidance webpage often.
If you have any questions, please contact LHS Counselors David Lance or Kristen Thiebaud.
