The Task Force reviewed many options, including the renovation of our current buildings. The Task Force ultimately concluded that building new would be in the best interest of the district after comparing it to the cost of renovating. To bring our buildings up to code, the cost is estimated to be $60,182,976. This does not include any unforeseen costs that are common when renovating older spaces, as well as the cost increases for 2024. Also, if we chose to renovate, the state share would decrease as their recommendation for a district of under 1,500 children would be a single-building option. If we deviate from that, funding will be impacted.
Building new is estimated to cost approximately $71,217,623 based on preliminary numbers. With assistance from the OFCC, the locally funded portion is estimated at $55,536,493, with the district contributing $2,036,493 to the project.
The district has also explored the cost of upgrades, like adding air conditioning to each building. The installation of new HVAC and ventilation systems is estimated to cost $2,139,350 at McMullen, $4,813,310 at Budd and $4,712,657 at LHS. This estimate does not include the plumbing work or wall repairs and construction that would be needed to accommodate new systems. These costs would likely exceed $20 million.

Reminder, Redirds! There will be no school on Friday, October 11. Our staff is taking part in an in-service day to continue learning and growing, all to better serve our students.

Superintendent Allerding will visit Perrysville Baptist Church tomorrow night to share information about the district's Master Facilities Plan and proposed November bond issue. We hope to see you there!
If you can't make it, another opportunity is available later this month at New Hope Community Church on October 29.

It’s been a busy day of maintenance at McMullen! Two of our classrooms, along with an area off the kitchen, experienced extreme temperatures and high humidity due to trouble with our steam heat. The boiler system was temporarily shut down so our maintenance team could replace and repair leaking lines and gaskets. They also addressed two sinks that were backing up and a leaking classroom ceiling!
We are so grateful to our custodial, maintenance and teaching staff for repeatedly taking action to address concerns in a way that minimizes the impact on our students.

The Task Force has reviewed and considered a variety of funding options, including an income tax levy. Because an income tax levy is dependent on those living in the district, it is less secure and not recommended by financial advisors due to its instability. If someone making $150,000/yr. moves out of the district or loses a job, the funding generated is lost. Additionally, the interest rate is higher for this type of funding source, and the term is shorter compared to a property tax, which would increase the annual commitment (23 years is the longest term for an income tax).
For example, funding a $52 million bond issue in our community through a 50/50 split of income tax and property tax would require a 1.25% income tax over a 23 year term and 4.8 mil property tax over a 37 year term. The income tax would generate $26,000,000 toward the project and would cost an estimated $625/year per $50,000 of income. The property tax would then generate $26,000,000 as well, and cost property owners $168/year per $100,000 of market value. A person making $50,000/year and living in a $100,000 home in our community would pay an estimated total of $793/year.
Funding the same issue through property taxes, would require a 10.10 mil property tax levy and would cost $353.50/year per $100,000 of market value.
