Superintendent Allerding spotted our band sharing their musical talents and spreading joy at the McMullen Assisted Care facility by our high school. We are so proud of our students' continual efforts to share their talents to brighten someone else's day! Way to go, Redbirds!

Budd students were visited by Budd School Legend, Basketball Jones! Jones has been sharing a message of "Above the Line" actions with our Redbirds for many years. A component of the R-Factor, an “above the line” response refers to a reaction that is intentional, on purpose, skillful and leads to a positive outcome. Budd uses the R-Factor and the skills that it teaches to help develop a positive culture for students.

We love our principals!
The Task Force reviewed many options, including the renovation of our current buildings. The Task Force ultimately concluded that building new would be in the best interest of the district after comparing it to the cost of renovating. To bring our buildings up to code, the cost is estimated to be $60,182,976. This does not include any unforeseen costs that are common when renovating older spaces, as well as the cost increases for 2024. Also, if we chose to renovate, the state share would decrease as their recommendation for a district of under 1,500 children would be a single-building option. If we deviate from that, funding will be impacted. Building new is estimated to cost approximately $71,217,623 based on preliminary numbers. With assistance from the OFCC, the locally funded portion is estimated at $55,536,493, with the district contributing $2,036,493 to the project. The district has also explored the cost of upgrades, like adding air conditioning to each building. The installation of new HVAC and ventilation systems is estimated to cost $2,139,350 at McMullen, $4,813,310 at Budd and $4,712,657 at LHS. This estimate does not include the plumbing work or wall repairs and construction that would be needed to accommodate new systems. These costs would likely exceed $20 million.

Save the Date: Community Meetings
It’s been a busy day of maintenance at McMullen! Two of our classrooms, along with an area off the kitchen, experienced extreme temperatures and high humidity due to trouble with our steam heat. The boiler system was temporarily shut down so our maintenance team could replace and repair leaking lines and gaskets. They also addressed two sinks that were backing up and a leaking classroom ceiling! We are so grateful to our custodial, maintenance and teaching staff for repeatedly taking action to address concerns in a way that minimizes the impact on our students.
