Crafting a school project about being thankful during Thanksgiving can be a wonderful way to express gratitude. Students at McMullen created projects that highlight what they're grateful for, such as family, friends, health, education, nature, or moments that have brought joy. Staff also wrote on our thankfulness board to illustrate their gratitude in the spirit of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to reflect on the blessings in your life and share that positivity with others!

📚✏️ Empowering Elementary Students to Write Expository Texts! ✏️📚 Students in Ms. Wheeler's class used nonfiction books to answer their research questions about baby animals and then drafted their own expository texts about the animal they researched. Expository writing equips students with valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom. It fosters critical thinking, research abilities, and effective communication. By nurturing their expository writing skills, we empower young minds to become confident, articulate, and informed communicators! 🌟📝🌍

Today's Halloween party at McMullen was a spooktacular success! 🎃Children came in their most creative and cute costumes, adding a vibrant and festive atmosphere. The event featured a costume parade! Inside the school, each classroom was transformed into a candy wonderland, and the kids had a blast trick-or-treating and collecting goodies from teachers and staff. There were also various activities, including pumpkin decorating, Halloween-themed crafts ans activities allowing young participants to express their creativity. Overall, the Halloween party was a delightful and safe celebration, ensuring that every little ghost and witch had a howling good time. The event truly brought the school community together and added a memorable touch of Halloween magic to everyone's holiday season. 🎃👻🍭 #ElementaryHalloweenParty #MemoriesMade

Mrs. Pollard and Mrs. Donley's 2nd grade scholars are using nonfiction text features in our expository anchor text about bears to help them find answers to questions and identify the main idea and details of different sections. They used headphone splitters while using their Chromebooks so they could listen to the text with a partner and collaborate to complete the activity.

🧑‍🔬Mrs Stitzlein's students did the Pop Rocket Launch experiment to launch fizzy tablet rockets by using the particles of matter! 🧪 The experiment demonstrates the three states of matter: solid (the fizzy tablet), liquid (the water), and gas (the carbon dioxide gas produced during the chemical reaction). When the fizzy tablet reacts with the water, it produces carbon dioxide gas, creating pressure inside the film canister. As the pressure builds, the lid eventually pops off, launching the canister into the air.💥

Third Grade Students at McMullen took part in White Cane Awareness Day activities geared towards understanding how blind people use their senses and tools to help them. White Cane Awareness Day was Oct. 15th. It has been celebrated since 1964 when the U.S. Congress passed a resolution declaring the day as White Cane Safety Day. Throughout the years, the National Federation of the Blind, the organization that helped create White Cane Safety Day, changed the name to White Cane Awareness Day. The goal of White Cane Awareness Day is to celebrate the independence, equality, and accomplishments of blind people. The white cane is a tool that helps blind people reach their goals. A special thank you to Ms. Tucker, Mrs. Syler and Mr. and Mrs. Heath for presenting information and organizing activities for students.

Students participating in a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) reward program are on a journey towards creating a positive and supportive school environment. PBIS is an evidence-based framework that focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors in students. One of the key components of PBIS is the implementation of reward systems to recognize and motivate students for their positive conduct. In a PBIS reward program, students earn rewards or incentives for demonstrating behaviors that align with the school's established expectations. McMullen's school expectations revolve around being respectful, responsible, and safe. Students at McMullen can earn Redbird SOAR reports for exhibiting positive behavior. This morning students who earned a Redbird SOAR report were selected at random to play Plinko! Students received gift cards donated by Southern Title of Ohio as a reward. A special thank you to the McMullen Parents Association for letting the school use the Plinko board and fixing it up, it looks great!
